Radio

(266 words, 6 paragraphs, 26 lines)

Introduction: Radio is a wonderful invention of modern science. Marconi invented the wireless instrument. The long distance messages were first sent by him in 1901 from London to Newfoundland in America. This amazed the entire world.

How it works: The wireless telegraphy is a matter of high technical skill. The light waves are faster than the sound waves. The sending instrument changes the sound waves into light or electric waves. The receiving sets are made to receive the light waves and change them again into sound waves. This works out the magic.

Conquered time and distance: The radio has practically shortened the distance. The happenings in a country are at once relayed all over the world. It has saved time.

An instrument of entertainment: Radio gives news, songs, music, talk and everything. When we are tired and fatigued, we switch on our radio and lie down on a sofa. At once we are cheered by the sweet melodies produced over radio. We forget our fatigue and exhaustion.

An instrument of state propaganda: The radio is of great use to the government. Urgent messages are now communicated through radio. Leaders address the nation through radio every now and then. The newspaper takes time to reach the farthest corner. Besides it is of little use to the illiterate. But radio takes no time. Its talks and songs are understood by both the literate and the illiterate.

A means of mass education: It is a very useful means for educating the mass. It not only serves as recreation to the students but also perfects their knowledge gathered from books.
