Introduction: The rainy season comes after the scorching heat of summer. So, people looked for it eagerly. This season lasts through Ashar and Sraban and the first part of Bhadra.

 

Reasons: The south-west monsoon that blows over Bangladesh from the Bay of Bengal, causes rainfall in our country and the rainy season begins.

 

Description: During the rainy season, the sky is overcast with black clouds. The sun remains hidden behind the clouds. It often rains for days together. In the rainy season tanks, ponds, canals, rivers are full of water. Water often overflows the banks. The fields appear to be the vast sheet of water. Village-roads go under water and people cannot go from one place to another on foot. The poor cannot work and procure food. So their sufferings are very great. Sometimes heavy rainfall causes floods. Floods often take away thousands of our lives, and cattle and destroy our houses, crops, trees and plants.

 

Usefulness: The rainy season is also useful to us. It purifies the air and washes away filths. It lessens the summer heat. Green leaves grow in trees. The cultivators of our country make the paddy fields ready. Our crops, trees and plants grow rapidly. Various juicy fruits such as jack-fruits, mangoes, bananas, pineapples etc. ripen at this time.

 

Conclusion: The rainy season has both advantages and disadvantages. But it is the most important and useful season in our country. Had there been no rainfall, crops would have failed.
