Introduction: The summer is the first of the six seasons. It prevails in our country in the months of Baishakh and Jaistha.

 

Summer in day and night:

(a) Summer in the morning: The morning in the summer is a bit moderate. A gentle breeze blows and people look for it eagerly. The sky remains clear and bright. People get up from bed early at dawn.

 

(b) At noon: The atmosphere becomes hotter and hotter as the sun goes higher and higher. The sun-rays become very scorching at noon. Then none can go out and work for a long time. It is also, not comfortable to be in the room. People gather in the shade of trees and have talks among themselves. The house-wives fan themselves and somehow remain in the house. The cattle then lie under the trees and chew the cud.

 

(c) At afternoon: In the afternoon the heat of the sun grows less and the atmosphere cools down. The stormy winds often blow from the north-west direction. This is called Kal-Balshakhi. It sometimes blows violently and the thatched houses are blown down.

 

(d) Summer at night: At night it is hot again. Men and women try to sleep in open places. Children cry aloud due to excessive heat. We often pass sleepless nights.

 

Scarcity of water: In summer, most of the tanks and ponds dry canals are without water. Villagers suffer from the heat and scarcity of water.

 

Fruits: The summer is the season of fruits. Mangoes, jack-fruits, black-berries, melons and other fruits are available in this season.

 

Conclusion: Few people like this season. But none can deny its usefulness. This season is a mixture of joy and sorrow.
