(259 words, 6 paragraphs, 26 lines)

Introduction: I have read almost all the novels and stories written by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. He is my favourite author. Indeed he is one of the greatest novelists of Bengali literature.

Short stories of Sarat Chatterjee: I was then a student of class IX. I read one of his short stories entitled 'Mahesh'. I was simply moved by reading this story and felt I was simply moved by reading this story and felt interested in reading his other stories. I read Ramer Sumati, Mejadidi, Bara didi, Devdas, Palli Samaj, Grihadaha, Niskriti, Pather Dabi, Charitrahin and many other novels written by him.

Characteristics of Sarat literature: Sarat Chandra had a mighty pen in his hand. He wrote his novels in simple language for the common people. He chose the subject-matter of his novels from the lives of the oppressed and down-trodden people of this land. What he wrote was their sorrows and sufferings. So his novels touch our heart so easily.

Some immortal characters of his novels: It is thought that immortal characters like Narayant, Rama, Gafur, Parul, Bara didi, Devdas, Parbati, Sabitri, Rajlakshmi are still living in our society. They are so real and interesting. This is why we cannot but read his novels completely when we begin reading them.

The reason of liking: All the novels written by him show his feelings for the poor and the distressed.

Concluding remarks: Sarat Chandra was a great novelist. His novels show that he had love and sympathy for the poor, the distressed and the helpless. He was a great patriot.
